Instructions
Preheat oven to 160°C. Grease and line a 23cm round cake tin.
Beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, golden syrup, vanilla, and milk; mix until smooth.
Sift in self-raising flour and mix just until combined. Spread half into the tin.
Layer half of the apple slices over the batter, then spread remaining batter and top with remaining apples.
Mix plain flour, oats, butter, and brown sugar to make crumbs. Sprinkle over the cake and press lightly.
Bake for 60 minutes, check with a skewer, then cool in the tin for 30 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Ensure not to overmix the batter for a tender crumb.
