A fragrant and spiced cake infused with the warm flavors of chai tea, perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsp ground ginger
  • 0.5 tsp ground allspice
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 0.25 tsp ground cloves
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Wet ingredients

  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 eggs eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature

Filling and frosting

  • 1.25 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese, cold
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 2 chai teabags chai teabags
  • 0.5 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pans.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat wet ingredients until combined.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until smooth. Brew chai tea and add to batter.
  • Pour batter into pans and bake for 45 minutes. Let cool before frosting.
  • Prepare frosting by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Spread between layers and on top.
