Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry

A quick and flavorful stir-fry combining tender beef, sweet onions, and savory sauces, perfect served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Beef

  • 1 lb beef flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced

Vegetable Oil

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Aromatics

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced

Sauces and Liquids

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with water (for thickening)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 0.25 cup beef broth or water
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

Garnishes

  • to taste chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • optional sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions 

  • Marinate the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and black pepper for 10 minutes.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large pan. Stir-fry beef in batches for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Add remaining oil to the pan. Stir-fry onions for 4-5 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  • Add garlic and ginger; cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Mix in sauces, beef broth, and cornstarch slurry. Return beef to pan and stir to coat. Cook 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

Use high heat for stir-frying and serve immediately for best flavor.
