Delight in these flaky, buttery scones packed with dried cranberries and sliced almonds, perfect for breakfast or tea time.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 2 eggs eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or low-fat milk with heavy cream)
  • 1 cup chopped dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (for brushing)

Instructions 

  • Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add cold butter and blend until crumbly.
  • Add eggs, vanilla, almond extracts, and milk; mix until just combined. Fold in cranberries and most almonds.
  • Shape dough into a ball, roll into a circle about 3/4" thick, and cut into 8 wedges.
  • Place wedges on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush tops with milk or cream, and sprinkle with remaining almonds.
  • Freeze the scones for 30 minutes, then preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden.
  • Cool slightly and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of sugar on top before baking.
