Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions 

  • Combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Warm milk, water, and melted butter; add to dry ingredients, then mix in the egg.
  • Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough, then knead for 6–8 minutes.
  • Let dough rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • Divide dough, shape into balls, place in a baking dish, and let rise. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes.
  • Brush with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

For softer rolls, brush with butter immediately after baking.
