Delicious and easy fish tacos featuring seasoned tilapia, topped with a flavorful chipotle mayo sauce and served in warm taco shells.

Ingredients

Protein

  • 1.5 lbs Tilapia filets
  • Kosher salt and black pepper (to taste)

Cooking Oil

  • 4 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • Zest and juice of 1 lime

Garlic

  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 large garlic clove (minced)

Spices

  • 3 tsp chili powder
  • 1.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.75 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper

Optional Garnishes

  • flour or corn taco shells, angel hair slaw, lime wedges, grilled corn, queso fresco, etc. (for serving)

Sauce

  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup sour cream
  • 3 tsp fresh lime juice
  • 3 chilies chipotle chilies in adobo sauce (finely chopped)
  • 1 large garlic clove (minced)
  • 2 Tbsp milk

Instructions 

  • Season tilapia with salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, and cayenne.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook tilapia until flaky, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, chopped chipotle chilies, minced garlic, and milk to make the sauce.
  • Warm taco shells and assemble tacos with fish, sauce, and optional garnishes.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the fish with spices for 15 minutes before cooking.
