Custard Filling
1 1/2cupswhole milk
1/2cupheavy cream
1/2cupsugar(divided)
3tablespoonscornstarch
1/2teaspoonvanilla extract
2tablespoonsheavy cream((cold))

Fruit Topping
about 2 to 2 1/2cupsassorted fresh seasonal fruit

1/4 to 1/2cupapricot preserves (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the crust by mixing flour, confectioners’ sugar, salt, and butter until crumbly. Add egg and press into tart pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
Whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, vanilla, and cognac. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Pour into cooled crust.
Chill the tart for at least 2 hours. Arrange sliced fresh fruit on top and brush with apricot preserves if desired.
