Homemade Sweet Potato Pie

A delicious homemade sweet potato pie with a flaky crust and warm spices, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Filling

  • 1 lb sweet potatoes (about 2 medium)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup light or dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (from a can)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping (optional)

  • whipped cream or Cool Whip (for topping)

Instructions 

  • Wrap sweet potatoes in foil and bake at 400ºF for 65 minutes, or boil for 40-50 minutes. Cool and peel.
  • Mix flour, sugar, and salt for the crust. Add oil and milk; press into a 9-inch pie dish.
  • Mash sweet potatoes and combine with butter, sugar, milk, eggs, flour, vanilla, lemon extract, and spices. Beat until smooth.
  • Pour filling into crust and bake at 350ºF for 55-60 minutes until set. Cool for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For a crisper crust, pre-bake it for 10 minutes before adding the filling.
