Hot Mulled Apple Cider Recipe

A warm, spiced apple cider perfect for cozy gatherings, infused with aromatic spices and citrus.

Ingredients

Water and Fruits

  • 12 cups water
  • 2 pounds apples (washed, cored, and cut into 4-6 pieces)
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise star
  • 6 sticks cinnamon sticks (about 3-4 inches long)
  • 4 pods cardamom pods (or ½ tsp ground cardamom)
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 orange orange (zest and juice)
  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ - 1 Tbsp molasses (optional)
  • 1 or 2 apples sliced apples
  • 2 cinnamon sticks additional cinnamon sticks
  • 2 anise stars additional anise stars
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 orange sliced orange
  • 1 lime sliced lime
  • ½ lemon sliced lemon

Instructions 

  • Pour water into a large pot, add apples, raisins, spices, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
  • Scrape orange peel, press out orange juice, and mash apples slightly. Add orange zest and juice to the pot.
  • Continue simmering for another hour, then turn off heat and cool slightly. Strain the cider and add vinegar and molasses if desired.
  • Reheat before serving and garnish with sliced citrus and apple slices.

Notes

Adjust sweetness with molasses and serve hot for best flavor.
