Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot coffee (or hot water)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pan.
  • Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla, and coffee; whisk until combined.
  • Pour batter into pan and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  • Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Serve as desired.

Notes

For extra fudginess, underbake slightly and let cool before serving.
