Pepper Steak with Bell Peppers and Onion

A quick and flavorful stir-fry combining tender beef with colorful bell peppers and onions in a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

Vegetables

  • 1 red bell pepper red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion medium onion, thinly sliced

Sauce and flavorings

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional) (for heat)

Instructions 

  • Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, water, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  • Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef and stir-fry 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add remaining oil. Stir-fry bell peppers and onion 4-5 minutes until tender but crisp.
  • Return beef to skillet, pour in sauce, and stir to coat. Cook 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and serve hot over rice or noodles. Garnish as desired.

Notes

For extra heat, add more red pepper flakes or serve with hot sauce.
