Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Additional liquids

  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare two 9-inch pans.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Whisk wet ingredients separately.
  • Combine wet and dry, then add coffee and mix until smooth.
  • Divide batter into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
  • Heat cream, pour over chocolate, add butter, stir until smooth to make ganache.
  • Spread ganache between layers and over the cake. Let set before serving.

Notes

Ensure cakes are fully cooled before applying ganache for best results.
