Ingredients

for the meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

for the gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ teaspoon thyme (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

for the mashed potatoes

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions 

  • Make the meatballs by mixing all meatball ingredients, rolling into 1-inch balls, and frying until cooked through.
  • Prepare the gravy by cooking onions in butter, adding flour, then whisking in broth and seasonings until thickened.
  • Return meatballs to the gravy and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with butter, milk, sour cream, salt, and pepper.
  • Serve mashed potatoes topped with meatballs and gravy.

Notes

Garnish with parsley for added flavor and presentation.
