Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Ganache

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch pans.
  • Mix dry ingredients. Add eggs, milk, oil, vanilla; beat 2 min. Stir in boiling water.
  • Pour batter into pans. Bake 30-35 min. Cool completely.
  • Heat cream, pour over chocolate; stir until smooth. Spread ganache between layers and over top.
  • Assemble cake, garnish as desired. Slice and serve.

Notes

Ensure cakes are completely cooled before applying ganache for best results.
