beef broth

Instructions
Brown the beef stew meat in a large pot over medium heat.
Add onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
Stir in tomato paste, thyme, and bay leaf.
Pour in red wine, scraping up browned bits.
Add beef broth, carrots, and potatoes; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours; season to taste.
Notes
Serve in hollowed-out bread bowls for a spooky cauldron effect.
